The SAC Airborne Command Control Association, Inc. (SAC ACCA) was organized to celebrate the legacy of the Strategic Air Command's Post Attack Command and Control System (SAC PACCS). A capability that, for over 29 years, provided continuous survivable airborne command and control of SAC's nuclear forces.
We would like to educate those seeking the valued information of this historic operation, from those brave men and women who risked their lives for the sake of the PACCS mission.

Nate grew up in nearby Council Bluffs, IA and joined the USAF in 2004. His first assignment as an Airborne Communications and Electronics Specialist (1A3x1) was for 9 years flying on NAOC at Offutt AFB, NE. His next assignments were at the 1st Airlift Squadron, Andrews AFB, MD, 320th TRS at Lackland AFB, TX (MTI tour), Hickam AFB, HI, then on to Tyndall AFB, FL where he recently retired after over 20 years of faithful service. Nate is married to his lovely wife Jen and they have 3 children at home, Maddie, Gray, and Chase.
Joe retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant with over a twenty year career in 1991. The majority of his career was as a Command Control Specialist. Over ten of those years were with the airborne command post community at the joint and major command level amassing over six thousand flying hours on EC-135C/H and E-4B aircraft. After Joe retired from the Air Force, he entered the federal service and retired once again in 2005 from the Department of Interior - National Park Service as a Park Ranger with his last posting at Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
Pete (PJ) joined the USAF in 1980 and after his Tech School training at Keesler AFB, MS he was assigned at Offutt AFB, Nebraska from 1981-1992. He was an Inflight Maintenance Technician (A328x5) on both the EC-135C and E-4B amassing nearly 4,000 flying hours combined. In 1992 he joined the 185FW of the Iowa Air National Guard and worked as a Command Post Controller and finally a Network Technician. He retired from the Mississippi Air National Guard in 2007 after nearly 27 years of service.
He is the proud Father of Peter John Jr and Sarah Jane both of Omaha, NE and the proud grandfather of William "Payne" and Juniper "Juni" Lynn. PJ currently resides in Waikoloa Village, HI.
Steve is a retired United States Air Force Master Sergeant with over 19 years and approximately 8,500 flying hours in the EC-135 C and H model aircraft as an Airborne Communications Systems Operator. Steve is a retired United States Air Force Master Sergeant with over 19 years and approximately 8,500 flying hours in the EC-135 C and H model aircraft as an Airborne Communications Systems Operator. Over the course of his flying career, he supported the Strategic Air Commands (SAC) and its successor, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Airborne Command Post mission, Looking Glass, and the Post Attack Command and Control System (PACCS) mission of ensuring survivable and enduring communications for the SAC/USSTRATCOM Commander. An experienced communicator, he has extensive experience managing, evaluating, instructing and operating High Frequency (HF) voice and data, Ultra High Frequency (UHF) voice and data, Low Frequency/Very Low Frequency and Trailing Wire Antenna Operations along with UHF/Extremely High Frequency satellite communications systems. After completing his military career, Mr. Shirley supported USSTRATCOM's’ J3 Global Operations Directorate for 19 years as a Nuclear Command Control and Communications Subject Matter Expert.
Bob entered the USAF in 1964 to learn computers. Upon graduation from 465L Transmision Control Center school he was assigned to Offutt AFB, NE at the HQ SAC Underground Command Post. His assignments that followed
took him in 1967 to Murphy Dome AF Station, AK in 1968 to Elmendorf AFB, AK NORAD AAC HQ. In 1974 back to Offutt AFB, NE to the

the 465L TCC. In 1978 he was pulled back to 55th AMS to be one of the point people on the E-4B Autodin installation on 0125 and the other 3 Nighwatch aircraft. Bob spearheaded putting on the Automatic Data Processing (ADP) system
on all EC-135C Looking Glass aircraft. In 1985 he was assigned to Gielenkirchen AB in support of the NATO AWACS mission. In 1987 Bob retired back to Omaha, NE and worked for oever 21 years at Drake University as an Information Technology Technician.
Mary Hillman is the Merchandise Manager for SAC ACCA. She has also been co-owner of the family excavating business since 1994. Until recently she was Executive Director at her hometown Chamber of Commerce. She has 36 plus years of experience as an event planner, organizing reunions, fundraising benefits for individuals, families, and

She has 36 plus years of experience as an event planner, organizing reunions, fundraising benefits for individuals, families, and community events. Since her husbands retirement from the USAF in 1992, she has been organizing their squadron reunions to include bus tours, special programs, and memorials, along with meals, all that goes into planning, and keeping those families in touch. Mary looks forward too continue working with the Board of Directors and SAC ACCA members in providing merchandise suitable for the organization.
